PARIS, France – January 31, 2023 – Today, Avient Corporation announced it will be highlighting solutions that can increase the durability of healthcare products and help improve the sustainability of medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging at Pharmapack 2023. These solutions include chemically-resistant polymer formulations and pre-tested polymer colorants and functional additives.

Heightened disinfection protocols are now a vital component within the healthcare market. However, this can negatively impact the mechanical and physical performance of medical plastics. Addressing this need, Trilliant™ HC Healthcare Formulations series HC8910 and HC8920 are formulated to help OEMs deliver more durable medical devices and equipment while reducing the risk of potential mechanical failure caused by repeated disinfection. These patent-pending formulations offer improved chemical resistance compared to traditional flame-resistant (FR) polymers. They can also help prevent cracking and crazing after recurring disinfectant exposure. They are made without bisphenol A (BPA) and are available in standard or custom colors.

Throughout the show, attendees can also explore the chemically-resistant technology of Versaflex™ HC Thermoplastic Elastomers series HC3810. The wide range of translucent grades offers excellent colorability for injection molded parts and over-molding thanks to outstanding bonding to various thermoplastics, including Trilliant HC Healthcare Formulations. The TPEs are formulated without animal derivatives and are suitable for different Shore A durometer ranges. They can be used in medical applications that include ergonomic grips, handles, gaskets, seals, IV connector caps, and diagnostic testing devices. All materials in this range are formulated to comply with ISO 10993-4 and -5, REACH SVHC, and RoHS.

Avient will also feature the latest Mevopur™ Healthcare Bio-based Polymer Solutions from its portfolio, with a new standard color range centered on bio-based polypropylene (bio-PP). The new range contains shades commonly used in medical devices: yellow, mid and dark grey, mid green, light and dark blue, white, and black. This new pre-tested bio-PP standard color range can help manufacturers speed up their product development cycle and increase the sustainability of their products. Their benefits can be extended to custom solutions upon request. Three standard white colorants in bio-polyethylene are also available for pharmaceutical packaging manufacturers.

Introduced in 2021, the Mevopur portfolio also includes custom color and additive concentrates and ready-to-use formulations made with bio-based polyolefins, polycarbonate, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, or styrenic polymers. The bio-based content of the polymers varies between 70 and 100% depending on the polymer. All the materials are manufactured in ISO 13485-2016 certified sites and supported by testing to ISO 10993-1, USP, EP, and ICH Q3D protocols. They can be processed on standard injection-molding machines and extruders and recycled in the same recycling channels as conventional fossil-based polymers.

Avient is exhibiting at Pharmapack in Hall 7.2, booth D70, at the Paris Expo in Porte de Versailles, France, February 1-2, 2023.
