Dissipate Static Charge

In everyday life, static electricity can be a nuisance. Static charges that build up on the surface of plastic products can attract dust and dirt, cause sheet and film to cling, and cause stacked products to stick together.  

In the world of product manufacturing, this can be a major disruption. As polymer material move through shear-inducing production equipment, positive or negative static charges can build up on the surface. This static build-up can cause the resulting parts, film, or sheet to cling to one another or stick to the mold or tool.

These static charges can also remain in parts well after production, causing them to attract and collect oppositely charged dust – on an automotive dashboard, for example – or create unwanted charges on the surface of electrical equipment. In this area, static discharge can also be a fire risk; a sudden discharge of static can damage products like computer chips or even cause a fire or explosion in hazardous areas.
