ANAHEIM, CA – September 23, 2019 – PolyOne (NYSE:POL) is highlighting hands-on, continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) composite demonstrations, a new snowboard binding application, and the addition of a new thermoplastic composites innovation lab at the Composites and Advanced Materials Expo (CAMX) 2019 tradeshow this week.   In addition, PolyOne is announcing the addition of a new thermoplastic composite innovation lab within the Polystrand manufacturing facility in Englewood, Colo.

Experts from Avient will be on hand to help wire and cable customers address the complex and demanding needs of solar, telecommunications and transportation applications with its unique portfolio of materials including low smoke and fume non-halogen (LSFOH) polymers, functional additives, colorants, engineered fibers and yarns. In addition, they can provide low coefficient of friction for blowing cable installation. OnCap™ Anti-Rat & Anti-Termite Technology is a low-concern, aversive additive to protect cable against termites and rats.

These solutions include bio-based polymer colorants and additives, and bio-derived thermoplastic elastomers with lower product carbon footprint (PCF) values substantiated by Avient’s PCF Calculator certified by TÜV Rheinland for ISO 14067 compliance.   Bio-based Polymer Colorants and Additives Launched in 2021, Mevopur™ Healthcare Bio-based Polymer Solutions are color and additive concentrates and ready-to-use formulations manufactured with bio-based polypropylene, polyethylene, polycarbonate, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, or styrenic polymers.

The materials can also be customized with radiopacifiers, colors, and other additives to meet specific application requirements.  In addition, the material can be overmolded on various substrates such as TPU and Nylon to allow for the creation of complex medical devices. Meanwhile, its compatibility with high-speed processing methods such as extrusion and injection molding provides additional flexibility that enables manufacturers to develop multi-material medical devices more efficiently. 

Additional iterations are in development for other high-performance resins, including polyethersulfone (PES) and polysulfone (PSU).   They are tested to ISO 10993 standards and can be customized with the addition of functional additives to enhance product performance.
