A fresh look at material options helps align key
properties with optimal performance for today’s
vehicles.
Known for offering tight seals and reducing
vibration and noise, certain thermoplastic elastomers
(TPEs), like OnFlex™ grades, may be better suited
for your particular application than the historically
incumbent materials, like general purpose TPEs,
thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV), and thermoplastic
polyolefins (TPO).
Processing conditions can cause material properties to shift from the values stated in the information.

CASE STUDY: CONTINUOUS FILAMENT WINDING TECHNOLOGY
CARBONERRO™ IMPROVES STAND UP PADDLE EXPERIENCE
FOR MID-LEVEL RIDERS WITH OPTIMIZED MATERIAL AND

Recognized for putting
the user experience first, Carbonerro first approached
Avient with the need for a paddle shaft that would
float, rather than sink, and use composites rather
than aluminum to provide an improved experience for
intermediate riders.
And Carbonerro also needed to keep costs
down to produce a more economical solution for the
non-professional enthusiast.

On
the other hand, in the supplier’s experience, molded
vinyl door panels were unable to recreate details such
as stitching or a dry touch that can make leather door
panels more attractive.
The supplier found that the vinyl powders it was using
clumped in the corners of the mold during processing
rather than filling the mold, causing air entrapment
and generating unacceptable amounts of scrap.
THE SOLUTION
The supplier’s design team approached Avient in
hopes of finding an alternative material that could
replace leather yet eliminate processing issues.

The
company approached Avient with the question: how
can we continue to meet premium brand owners’ needs
while improving our own profitability?
THE IMPACT
The closure producer’s team switched to Gravi-Tech
material, and immediately logged a 35% cost savings
due to lower material and processing costs.

THE CHALLENGE
Bettcher Industries, Inc. is a leader in food processing
equipment, and recognized for innovative, performance
products.
When Avient proposed re-engineering the yoke with an
alternative composite material, Bettcher was receptive,
but needed evidence that a polymer solution would
retain the reliable performance its customers demanded.
We are grateful for Avient’s proactive approach,” added

Dear Valued Customer,
As part of PolyOne’s commitment to offer our customers the most value in a competitive global marketplace,
we are making changes to our Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) in order to meet the coming requirements
of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
GHS generally requires more information on the hazards of chemicals to be included on an SDS, and requires it
in a different format, so GHS SDSs are generally longer than before.
Sincerely,
PolyOne Corporation
