Since
polymers interact differently with laser energy,
making them more or less suitable for laser welding,
special polymer solutions can be used to enhance
a polymer’s ability to interact with the laser energy
and achieve a good weld.
Avient uses a “systems approach” to develop the
laser welding solution most adapted to your project,
taking into consideration the following aspects:
• Transmitting and absorbing parts
• Polymer type and grade
• Dispersion of the additive in the final part
• Sufficient and consistent loading of the additive
• Part design: attention to flow separation at the
welding interface
• Color and opacitiy
• Quality control – e.g. establish suitable control
parameters (UV Visible Spectra)
• Laser wavelength and processing parameter
Mevopur™ Healthcare Functional Additives
formulated for laser welding are designed for use
in healthcare applications.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
• Manufactured at four ISO 13485 certified sites,
providing global consistency and increased
security of supply
• Documented change control beyond CAS
number, reducing risk of change
• Available as additive concentrates, ready-to-use
additive formulations or ready-to-use additive/
colorant formulations for different polymers
REGULATORY SUPPORT
• Raw materials tested to:
- ISO 10993-1 and USP biological
evaluation
- European Pharmacopeia 3.1.3/3.1.5
(polyolefin)

In further testing, scanning electron microscopy was used
to examine the polymer-to-titanium bond.
AxioMed’s breakthrough idea involves
placing two titanium plates on either side of a polymer core.
Kuras said, “Working
with PDI’s PhD scientists gives us access to an exceptional knowledge of polymers.

THERMOPLASTICS
PRODUCT SELECTION GUIDE
Nylon (polyamide - PA) solutions from Avient include both prime Nymax™/Bergamid™ Polymer Formulations and
Nymax™ REC Recycled Nylon Formulations.
Based on nylon 6 (PA6) and nylon 66 (PA66) polymers, these materials
combine high temperature performance with exceptional strength and durability.
NYMAX/BERGAMID PRIME NYLON GRADES
The Nymax/Bergamid series of PA6 and PA66 polymers are
designed to meet critical performance requirements for
demanding applications.

Unlike surface treatments, they
are blended into the polymer during the spin-dyeing
process and are more resistant to washing and
wearing off.
Organic antimicrobials consist of substances that
migrate within the polymer matrix, spreading
over the surface of the materials where their
antimicrobial action has effect.
Inorganic antimicrobials incorporate substances
containing silver in ionic form, bound to inorganic
compounds that regulate the diffusion of ions
within the polymer mass.

CESA™ Light Additives
Light Stability
PRODUCT SELECTION GUIDE
Exposure to the sun, heat, and oxygen through
outdoor exposure causes the degradation of
the polymer, resulting in yellowing, loss of melt
strength, and loss of mechanical properties in most
resins.
One method is through the use
of stabilizers that react with radicals created from
UV exposure, inhibiting polymer degradation.
Many CESA Light products include
CESA Nox additives, which also aids in polymer
protection.

It permits black
polymers to be detected by near infrared (NIR)
automatic sorting equipment, enabling recycling.
Automatic
sorting equipment relies on the reflectance of NIR
wavelengths to identify polymers and properly
sort packaging waste by plastic material.
By using OnColor IR Sortable Black, black polymers
will be detectable by NIR sorting equipment,
allowing packaging to be sorted and sent for
recycling instead of landfill or incineration, which is
a key requirement in the circular economy system.
