The device housing features Resilience™ HC, a rigid vinyl formulation designed to resist stress cracking from exposure to a wide range of hospital disinfectants.  As hospitals implement robust cleaning protocols designed to battle healthcare associated infections, medical devices are subjected to various types of disinfectants at different concentrations and frequency of use.

Hospital acquired infections, also known as healthcare associated infections (HAI) or nosocomial infections, are on the rise around the world. Medical facilities are resorting to aggressive disinfecting regimens in efforts to prevent them, and hospital equipment is now being subjected to disinfection more frequently and with harsher cleaners.

Because insurance companies and Medicare will no longer reimburse the costs associated with HAI’s, the financial burden, estimated at $14,000 per infection, falls on the patient or hospital. To cope with this challenge, hospitals are cleaning medical devices more frequently and with harsher disinfectants than ever before. A recent Mayo Clinic study confirmed this increased frequency of disinfection of hospital surfaces substantially reduces infection rates.
