Avient Corporation 6
• A number of different shapes and
designs are created and simulated to
determine which one works best
• Refining to meet EN standard
• VDT TPEs can help reach compliance
with EN1621-1 level 2 and EN1621-2
level 1
• Optimum protection can be achieved
by combining industrial design and
engineering

SELECTION GUIDE
NEUSoft™ Thermoplastic Polyurethanes
With continued advancement in healthcare
technology, the importance of quick prototyping and
material sampling has never been greater.
Processing conditions can cause material properties to shift from the values stated in the information.

It is best for material to flow
from thick to thin regions in the part.
Place these wells at the base of the sprue to capture the cold material first
emerging from the nozzle.

Because low durometer (softer) material is a
requirement for this application, the manufacturer
considered a switch to a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).
The company tried several TPE grades, hoping to find
a material that would eliminate the adhesion problem
while providing comparable softness to silicone.
With the Avient material, the manufacturer is expected
to save $122,000 per year vs. silicone.
https://www.avient.com/sites/default/files/2020-11/controller-grip-case-study.pdf
The company needed to find the
right material that met all their requirements to create the
new control grips.
The material is also complicated to
process, which can increase costs further.
The material was customized with
the special glow-in-the-dark colorant and laser etched
with intricate game logos.

ELECTRET CHARGING
Electret charging works by improving the
crystallinity and mechanical deformation of a
material, to prevent electret charging from drifting.
By introducing additives with charge storage
properties, “charge traps” are created which capture
the electret charge applied to the meltblown
nonwoven material.

This low smoke and fume non-halogen (LSFOH) grade
was developed to provide comparable performance to
market-leading jacket materials, including PVC, while
offering additional benefits to cable manufacturers
needing to meet CSA Teck 90 certification.
Offering excellent mechanical properties, the ECCOH
5981 UV formulation provides a durable material
choice for Teck 90 cables used in demanding
locations where safety is paramount.
