Avient Corporation today announced the expansion of its bio-based polymer solutions for medical and pharmaceutical applications These are in addition to bio-based polyolefin materials that Avient introduced in 2021. These bio-based materials can be processed on standard injection-molding machines and extruders and can be recycled in the same recycling channels as conventional fossil-based polymers.

New Maxxam™ BIO Bio-Based Polyolefins can be filled with up to 40% bio-filler from cellulose fiber.  Initially launched at the K Show in October 2022, Maxxam™ BIO bio-based polyolefins are formulated with both bio-based resin and/or filler from natural sources such as olive seed powder. They can be based on either prime or bio-based resin.

Mevopur™ Healthcare Bio-based Polymer Solutions manufactured in Malmö, Sweden, are now ISCC PLUS certified. Additionally, they can be recycled in the same channels as conventional fossil-based polymers. Following the mass balance chain-of-custody approach, the amount of bio-based content is tracked through segregated bookkeeping and provided in the sustainability declaration for the Mevopur healthcare bio-based portfolio.
