Renewable Energy From Floating Solar Panels
Avient worked with a progressive customer who designed floating solar panels that float on large bodies of water, and require very demanding weather resistance in harsh environments.
Existing industry solutions failed to protect panels from outdoor exposure and harsh weather conditions.

And, unlike
thermosets, thermoplastic materials are able to be
easily thermoformed to the exact shape required before
inserting into the injection mold.
The design team at Rome worked closely with the
Avient advanced composites technical team and a
local thermoformer, trialing various combinations of
engineered resin and reinforcement, fiberglass content,
and laminate configurations.

APPLICATION BULLETIN
Replace complicated in-house panel fabrication with
ready-to-install engineered composites.
Advanced composites offer the marine
industry an alternative to the extensive labor
and time required by traditional methods
for fabricating watercraft panels.
In contrast to VARTM panels,
which are highly labor intensive and require
extended curing, PolyOne panels come ready
to install.
