Avient’s unique formulation expertise allows the supply of reprocessed, high-quality, non-toxic PVB to be upcycled into more sustainable TPEs with excellent properties.
These injection moldable TPEs can be overmolded to polypropylene (PP) and come in a natural grade that can be easily colored.
These new TPEs contain 25 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) content from PVB reclaimed from broken automotive windshields and laminated architectural glass.

Avient GLS thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material specialists identified a current TPE within the OnFlex™ S HF, non-halogenated, flame retardant portfolio that could be slightly modified to meet the application’s requirements.
Avient determined the TPE would perform satisfactorily at an 85 Shore A hardness level.
Based on current market data, this translates to potential increased sales revenue of as much as €150,000 ($225,000 US).

NOVEL TPE DEVELOPMENTS: Non-Drying TPEs for PC, ABS, PBT and their alloys Novel classes of non-drying TPEs which can overmold onto a variety of engineering thermoplastics have been developed.
Thus far, the insert molding data presented here is very encouraging and it is determined that these novel TPEs will exceed expectations in two-shot molding environments as well.
