Non-PFAS, Flame-Retardant Formulations Expand Avient’s Complēt™ Long Fiber Polyketone Portfolio
Avient adds non-PFAS flame-retardant formulations to its Complēt™ PKE long fiber reinforced portfolio
Beyond performance, various eco-conscious aspects of these long fiber thermoplastics (LFTs) bring additional value to the market.
https://www.avient.com/news/polyone-accentuates-what’s-possible-application-specific-materials-and-design-npe-2018
It’s a cost-effective option for paint replacement on polymer parts and creates an exceptional metallic color that continues through the part’s thickness.
Its EMI/RFI portfolio – including new long-fiber conductive materials – helps shield ADAS cameras, sensors and electronic control units to eliminate cross talk.
Lightweighting is also part of this trend, and its Polystrand™ thermoplastic composite continuous fiber tapes and laminates are providing the structural strength to replace metals while amplifying design freedom.

The certification is further demonstration that Avient’s offerings meet sustainability requirements under this renowned standard and a compelling recognition of Avient’s approach to corporate social responsibility,” said Say-Eng Lee, vice president and general manager, Color & Additives Asia.
Dyneema®, the world's strongest fiber™, enables unmatched levels of performance and protection for end-use applications, including ballistic personal protection, marine and sustainable infrastructure and outdoor sports
Sustainable infrastructure solutions that increase energy efficiency, renewable energy, natural resource conservation and fiber optic / 5G network accessibility
https://www.avient.com/news/dyneema-unveils-breakthrough-innovation-enable-weight-savings-20-protective-body-armor
The world’s strongest fiber™ just got stronger, thanks to next-generation material developments
Through molecular engineering, Dyneema® was able to innovate its third-generation fiber at the polymer level.
Beyond strength, Dyneema® SB301 has the additional advantage of being made from bio-based Dyneema® fiber, which enables a carbon footprint up to 90% lower than generic high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) fiber.
https://www.avient.com/crtm-panels-0
CRTM™ (continuous resin transfer molding) panels are high quality composite sandwich panels with tailored, multi-axial fiber reinforcements, high-fiber volume contents and very low void content.
Laminate skin face-sheets are also available with continuous fiberglass and/or carbon fiber reinforced polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy or custom resins.
This is possible because, unlike a pultrusion process where the resin is applied to the fiber before it enters the die, with CRTM the resin is injected directly into the die for better control of fiber alignment and resin kinetics.

FEATURES
• Created for
applications where
an untreated fiber
does not have the
ability to provide the
appropriate amount
of bonding
characteristics to
another material
• Provides adhesion to
another fiber or
substrate without
impacting other
performance
properties
• Improves adhesion
of the fiber to the
resin matrix it is
introduced into
• Enables industry
standard “burst”
tests or stringent
delamination
analysis
• Designed to achieve
vibrant colors for
safety, identification,
and aesthetics
• Specialized formulas
and binders adhere
the pigment to the
exterior of the
individual filaments,
while impregnating
deep into the fiber
bundle
• Available by Pantone
or RAL number
• Compatible with a
variety of composite
resins including
epoxy, polyurethane,
and polyethylene
• Stronger than
solution-dyed fibers
• Designed to add
lubricity and
temperature
resistance at the
filament level for
braided compression
packing
• Coating at the fiber
level versus the
finished braid
achieves higher %
level coating
• Fiber level coating
extends the life of
the braid and
reduces required
maintenance
• Various formulations
available
• PTFE, silicone,
graphite, and
mineral oil
• Created for high
performance fibers
that lack inherent
ultraviolet (UV)
resistance
• Coating impregnates
the individual fibers
with a specialized
resin for improved
UV protection
• Coating
enhancements
include UV inhibitors,
absorbers and
stabilizers
• Improves the
processing of the
product via reduced
filament snagging
and friction
• Low level water-
blocking finish for
any technical fiber or
textile substrate
• Provides water-
blocked strength
reinforcements for
dry cable designs

imparts a very soft
fiber hand,
advantageous to
cable, rope, and
other textile
processes
• Patented technology
incorporates super
absorbent polymer (SAP)
suspended in a
proprietary resin matrix
• Used in the production
of ‘dry-dry’
telecommunications,
electromechanical,
seismic, umbilical and
power cables
• Can absorb up to 100x
its weight in water
• Creates a stable gel
when exposed to water
• Functionally replaces
flooding compounds,
filling gels, spun SAF
yarns, and water
blocking tapes
• Enables faster, more
economical and robust
cable manufacturing
• Increases durability and
abrasion resistance by
encapsulating filaments
in the fiber bundle
• Extends the life of the
product by reducing the
effects of friction and
yarn on yarn abrasion

from degradation and
filamentation
• Ideal for high abrasion
and high friction
applications in a range
of fiber constructions
and environments
• Wicking refers to the
tendency of a yarn
or other fiber to draw
moisture into filaments
via capillary action
• Coatings designed to
prevent moisture from
wicking within and
between fibers and
strands
• Protects Wire or Optical
Fiber from damaging
effects of moisture,
which can cause a drop
in signal and attenuation
• Hydrophobic additives
used to promote and
enhance water
repellancy in industrial
applications
• Creates a waterproof
barrier that prevents
moisture from further
migration
• Applied at various %
levels to optimize for
water-proof ratings

slow the spread of
fire/flame
• Coupled to fibers with
inherent flame and
thermal resistance to
boost performance

Look at the fiber composition, the color of the garment, the stretch of the garment, the functionality of the garment and the weave and texture of the garment.
Ghosting or post bleaching can occur on light colored, over dyed or stone washed garments when printing with low bleed inks.
