WHY AVIENT?

After fully understanding all of the requirements,
Avient’s technology team began to formulate an easy-
to-mold, durable and aesthetically pleasing specialty
polymer that provided processing flexibility and
wouldn’t require retooling.
The results showed the
Avient material outperformed typical FR PC/ABS and
had an added bonus: a UL yellow card V0 flammability
rating for all colors and some thicknesses.* Avient
also used its custom color matching capabilities to
provide pre-colored material that simplified molding,
while the material’s wide processing window helped
accommodate a variety of molding environments.

And, because they are formed by injection molding,
long fiber reinforced thermoplastics can be easily
customized to specific design requirements.
Our designs have to be slightly distorted
when molded so that in use, when the blade is
experiencing propulsion forces, it has the proper shape
to maximize thrust.”
Injection molding with long fiber composites
makes it easy to add feature details like our Hydrobites
that would be difficult and expensive to produce in
metal,” said Stahl.

GLS™ TPEs with Antimicrobial Technologies
This specialty line of GLS™ thermoplastic elastomers
has imbedded antimicrobial additives that inhibit
bacterial growth by 99.9% or more (log 3) and resist
fungal growth to protect molded plastic parts.
Developed for the preservation of high-touch
surfaces and applications, these formulations
contain antimicrobial additives that continuously
inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungus, and molds
that cause odor and detrimental aesthetic and
mechanical property changes to the finished plastic
part.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
• Protects finished part by inhibiting microbial
and fungi growth
• Extends useful life of finished TPE parts by
controlling deterioration caused by mildew
or mold fungus
• Increases product durability, preserves surface
integrity, and minimizes odors
MARKETS & APPLICATIONS
Suitable for high-touch surfaces and applications,
GLS TPEs with antimicrobial technologies add
value in the consumer, packaging and automotive
markets.
