Overmolding Technology
Over-Molding utilizes the injection molding process to apply one material [Over-Mold] onto another material
[Substrate].
One set molds the substrate and the other molds the overmolding material.
This can be partially
counteracted by using higher modulus substrate materials and providing stiffening ribs in the substrate.

Gas traps can cause sink marks, short shots or even low bond strength between an overmold and a substrate.
When designing an overmold, allowing the steel of the second shot tool to crush into the substrate will hold the substrate in place, create a clean line between TPE and substrate, and create venting in locations where other vent methods will not work.
Most GLS TPE materials replicate the mold surface fairly well.

GLS271-051 is a novelty TPE
material that overcomes such an inherent difficulty.
Furthermore, the material has outstanding
adhesion to Ultramid B3G6 (glass reinforced polyamide 6) as demonstrated in Figure 10 and 11.
