However, these high-
heat materials require much higher mold and melt temperatures than
typical plastics such as polypropylene (PP), nylon and polycarbonate
(PC).
To mold high-performance thermoplastics, processing equipment
must be capable of melt temperatures up to 400°C and mold
temperatures up to 200°C.
These can range from viscosity changes that affect
consistency of the molding process to dimensional stability and
aesthetics of the finished part.

HOW GLS TPEs MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN AUTOMOTIVE HVAC APPLICATIONS
• Low VOC/FOG – externally tested to VDA 278
and shows significant reductions in volatile
organic compounds and fogging when
compared to current TPE technologies
• Industry standards – helps to achieve VOC/
FOG performance standards for improved VIAQ
• Reduced manufacturing steps – does not
require pre-drying or post heating to reduce
VOC in parts produced
• Design optimization – color can be added at
the machine
• Easy to process – can be extruded, injection
molded and extrusion blow molded
• Recyclable – Our automotive TPEs are
compatible with most municipal recycle
streams
• Global support – Avient automotive TPEs
can be manufactured in locations that are
convenient to your operations, including
North America, Europe or China

In addition, they process easily on standard injection molding machines and can be overmolded to
simplify your production process.
Ability to add surface texture – Our injection
molded TPEs are easily processed in commonly
used, complex molds.
Our materials allow you to
add surface texture by bead blasting or chemically
texturing the mold.

HVAC doors are typically produced by injection molding
two parts that provide structural strength and air
sealing performance.
This global reach
also allowed Avient to respond quickly to mold trials,
and eliminate import and shipping challenges.
Avient engineered a new customized formulation for the
part, which provided both the processability required
for extremely short cycle injection-compression
molding, as well as including an additive to stabilize
the material when in contact with copper.

Colorant Chromatics™ PEI Masterbatch
Colors for High-Temperature Injection Molding Applications
Colorant Chromatics™ PEI colorants are specifically
designed to color polyetherimide (PEI) resin used in
high-temperature injection molding applications.
Formulations are
heavy metal free and manufactured using state-
of-the-art pigment dispersion techniques that
improve homogenization and color distribution
during injection molding.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
• Consistent coloring and improved
homogenization with the polymer offer more
efficient processing and waste reduction
• Opaque PEI masterbatches available with
shorter lead times and a range of readily
available standard colors
• Minimum order quantities as low as 5kg (10 lbs)
for improved inventory control
• Robust colorant formulations mean no
disruptions to existing molding processes,
allowing manufacturers to bring products
to market faster and without investing in
new machinery
FEATURES AND COLORS
PEI colorants are manufactured using 100% prime
virgin PEI resin.
