A global business equipment manufacturer decided to develop a premium line of computer mouse products that offered improved ergonomics and soft-touch qualities. Key to the product development effort was a soft-touch grip that would give users a smooth feel, easy handling, and more physical comfort. The Avient team worked with the manufacturer to meet specific property needs and developed a customized solution that added soft-touch, ergonomic, and friction-free features.

Together they developed a specially formulated pre-colored talc-filled Maxxam™ PP material incorporating OnCap™ CTR Process Optimization Additive. To assure color consistency, the development process also included creation of color specifications – the first time the OEM had such standardization for underhood parts. New tooling was also being developed at the time, and the team was able to provide design input that minimized mold shrinkage during production.

Avient customers can work directly with ColorWorks teams in the early stages of product development to help shorten their time to market, control costs, and manage color consistently across the globe.   With the addition of our Mexico site, we will be more accessible to customers in the Mexico and Central America regions and as a result, offer more opportunities for onsite collaboration to help streamline product development,” said Allan Bojorge, General Manager, North LATAM at Avient.   As with all Avient ColorWorks facilities, the new location will offer Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) trend consultation, in-person or virtual color development, rapid prototyping, and more.

Government funding and support through various laws, tax credits, and development grants indicates that public EV charging equipment production will likely continue on a high growth trajectory. Automakers are also making significant investments, not only in the adoption of EVs but also in the development of a robust infrastructure that will support the millions of vehicles expected to be on the road within the next few years.
