Medical Overmolding
Avient has several USP VI overmolding products available for use in medical device applications.
Versaflex™ OM 9-801N was developed to bond to a variety of substrates allowing molders to use the same thermoplastic elastomer with varying substrates.
Overmolding Polypropylene (PP)

The supplier molds two housing components using a 20 percent talc-filled polypropylene — one for the HVAC parts and one for the blower motor — then assembles all of the components to produce a single module.
To protect against supply chain disruption, the supplier needed to find a second source for the polypropylene.
A team of engineers from the supplier and the OEM met with Avient experts to look at possible polypropylene options.

The new container, to be made from an impact-modified polypropylene, needed good sidewall stiffness and excellent impact resistance.
Teams from both companies worked closely to understand the specific property needs, and then searched for an impact modifier solution that the manufacturer could readily blend into polypropylene at the molding machine.
They selected a TPE-based impact modifier that could be used at a loading level five percentage points below the current material while still meeting all of the performance requirements, including higher stiffness.
