The new container, to be made from an impact-modified polypropylene, needed good sidewall stiffness and excellent impact resistance.
It also needed to have high clarity, which created a significant problem: existing materials provided clarity, but not the necessary stiffness.
Teams from both companies worked closely to understand the specific property needs, and then searched for an impact modifier solution that the manufacturer could readily blend into polypropylene at the molding machine.

Hard/soft combinations of either rigid plastic or metal with TPEs are one way to achieve haptic contrast, which in turn, differentiates products with aesthetic appeal.
Depending on haptic targets, TPEs can provide a variety of feels from grippy to silky, and can be brightly colored to enhance aesthetics and consumer appeal.
This reduces manufacturing steps and the cost of assembly, which is no longer needed.

a) what effect do thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) formulations have on the attenuation (energy absorption) of a signal ranging from 20-45 GHz?
b) what effect does the varying thickness of those TPE materials have on the attenuation (energy absorption) of a signal ranging from 20-45 GHz?
Download this white paper below to learn which TPEs were chosen, the methodology used, and the test results.
