When Avient proposed re-engineering the yoke with an alternative composite material, Bettcher was receptive, but needed evidence that a polymer solution would retain the reliable performance its customers demanded.
THE IMPACT At its core, the goal of re-engineering the motor yoke was to maintain quality, durability and strength while reducing weight and lowering costs.
Soon after our combined efforts to re-engineer the product, we were faced with supply challenges with the cast aluminum.

In 2018, we achieved the best performance in our history with a recordable incident rate of 0.51.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the management approach, PolyOne monitors several key performance indicators on a regular basis: Total Injury/Illness Incident Rate (IR) and Lost Work Day Injury/Illness Rate (LWDII) cases are globally reported on a monthly basis.
Standard formulations conforming to UL 94 V-2, V-0 and 5VA performance ratings are available, with many in the portfolio offering elevated Relative Thermal Index (RTI) ratings.

In addition, the TPV supplier was not providing sufficient quantities of the material consistently, threatening the manufacturer’s ability to meet its own customer’s needs on time.
These savings resulted from Versalloy’s lower specific gravity (0.88 compared to 0.95) and a 50% reduction in scrap rate.
Reliable JIT supply chain: The Versalloy material needed by the customer was reliably supplied by Avient in just three weeks instead of the typical six week lead time.

No matter how many times you expose TPEs to sufficient heat they will become soft and re-harden when cool.
Though the viscosity of TPEs are reduced when processed at high shear rates, TPEs must be “packed” into a mold to ensure complete fill-out.
TPEs offer excellent barrier properties against both air and moisture.
