The elastomeric material, used to overmold a cuff on the end of the hose, demonstrated inconsistent quality and subpar flow properties.
As a result of the system-based cost savings and improved supply reliability, the manufacturer made the decision to proceed with the Versalloy TPV, which is now used in the production of end cuffs for a variety of repeated-use surgical and respiratory hoses.
Cost savings: The hose manufacturer saves $33,000 per year by using Versalloy TPV instead of its previous material.

Using in-house 3D simulation software through Avient Design, we can predict the material behavior of parts foamed with Hydrocerol™ Chemical Foaming Agents during the mold-filling process.
These foaming agents are commonly used in consumer goods and automotive components to reduce part weight without compromising stiffness or mechanical properties.

End-use fabrics and textiles can then be tested using specific analytical tests to determine the presence of the taggant, thus confirming the origin of the fibers.
In the case of recycled grades, fiber manufacturers can use the tracer concentrate pellets earlier in the production process by adding them to the recycled polymer content (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate bottle flakes or shredded nylon fishing nets) prior to being extruded into pellets.

Although TPV and EPDM have historically been used in this application, they are less effective in minimizing appliance ‘walking’ and require longer production cycle times.
In addition, this material withstands wear and tear of daily use, is overmolded easily onto polypropylene, and reduces cycle time through the elimination of secondary operations, such as drying.
To help customers learn more about using Versaflex VDT TPE materials to mitigate vibration, PolyOne recently published this Smart Materials™ Vibration and Sound eBook.
