GLS™ TPEs with Antimicrobial Technologies
This specialty line of GLS™ thermoplastic elastomers
has imbedded antimicrobial additives that inhibit
bacterial growth by 99.9% or more (log 3) and resist
fungal growth to protect molded plastic parts.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
• Protects finished part by inhibiting microbial
and fungi growth
• Extends useful life of finished TPE parts by
controlling deterioration caused by mildew
or mold fungus
• Increases product durability, preserves surface
integrity, and minimizes odors
MARKETS & APPLICATIONS
Suitable for high-touch surfaces and applications,
GLS TPEs with antimicrobial technologies add
value in the consumer, packaging and automotive
markets.

Generally, GLS TPEs will flow much further in thinner walls than other types of TPEs.
High flow GLS TPEs (such as Versalloy) have been used successfully to fill flow ratios up to 400.

The Avient team
assessed the application’s technical and operational
requirements, and recommended GLS Versalloy™ XL-
9045-1 alloy in 45 Shore A durometer, an FDA-compliant
medical TPV grade designed for overmolding onto PP.
THE IMPACT
Avient’s expertise in materials for medical device
applications helped this customer make a smooth
transition to the GLS TPV.

To meet the manufacturer’s goals for the mouse grip,
a clear TPE overmolding material, GLS Versaflex™, was
formulated for improved ergonomics and comfort,
strong chemical resistance, and excellent bonding to
the ABS substrate.
A technical support team at Avient
GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers conducted extensive
compatibility testing to confirm proper bonding and
overmolding onto the rigid substrate.

One of the key properties of thermoplastic elastomers supplied by Avient GLS is hardness.
GLS Grade
GLS typically reports hardness using the 10 second delay method.
