The search led Kruunutekniikka’s design engineering team to Avient.
Avient engineered materials that combined the heat transfer and cooling capabilities of metals with the design freedom, weight reduction and cost advantages of conventional thermoplastics.
Improved manufacturing: The company realized substantial savings during high-volume production thanks to a switch from die casting to injection molding.

Designs traditionally have required lead parts produced by machining or casting.
They wanted an injection moldable material with equivalent radiation shielding performance and the ability to provide uniform shielding with no “hot spots.”
Injection molding also would allow the company to eliminate machining and increase productivity and design freedom for components.

Typically, the amount polymers shrink is consistent and accounted for in component designs which enables the holding of tight design tolerances.
Design Freedom
From sweeping curves to intricate details, designs that would be cost prohibitive to machine or difficult to cast in metals are easy and inexpensive to repeatedly produce in high volumes using injection molding processing.

When PolyCase Ammunition was getting ready to produce its new line of high performance ammunition, the project team knew they needed a material that would be easily enable them to produce their patent-pending, injection molded projectile designs that function as well or better than conventional lead-core projectiles.
The designs were unique.
The Avient team used their extensive knowledge and experience working with high-density polymers to develop a specialized Gravi-Tech™ high-density polymer composite that met PolyCase’s needs and fit the profile of their proprietary injection molding process.
