HVAC doors are typically produced by injection molding two parts that provide structural strength and air sealing performance. In addition, the new material also provides anti-static properties and low VOC levels, which helps the system adhere to regulations such as the Vehicle Interior Air Quality (VIAQ) standard.

The supplier found that the vinyl powders it was using clumped in the corners of the mold during processing rather than filling the mold, causing air entrapment and generating unacceptable amounts of scrap. THE IMPACT The Avient solution eliminated processing issues the supplier had encountered with competitive materials, such as air entrapment and demolding difficulties.

Plastic parts in the passenger compartment develop electric charges as people get in and out of the vehicle and air circulates through the ventilating/air conditioning system.
