They include amorphous polymers such as polystyrene (PS), High Impact
Polystyrene (HIPS), Polycarbonate (PC), Acetal (POM), PC/ABS, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS),
Polyphenylene oxide (PPO), Noryl® (a miscible blend of PS and PPO), and PC/PETG.
For PC, ABS and PC/ABS, the adhesion values are plotted in Figure 8.

Consumer Product Differentiation
Page 13
July 19, 2007
Today there is phenomenal interest in overmolding TPEs onto rigid substrates, particularly in the consumer
product arena in applications requiring a soft touch.
https://www.avient.com/sites/default/files/2021-12/Chemically Resistant Materials Whitepaper.pdf
It can be
seen that the PC/ABS and
PC/PET samples failed to
survive the disinfectant
exposure and produce a
testable sample.
Due to the higher cost position of
copolyester, it was substituted for PC/PBT in the
consumer disinfectant testing.
With regards to PC
alloys, the general trend of increasing chemical
resistance was observed in order of PC/ABS <
PC/PET < PC/PBT, which was expected based on
previous research and the marketing literature of
PC blend manufacturers.4 However, the Edgetek
ET8900 series clearly demonstrated the best ESCR
performance against the household cleaners.

TPE suppliers have responded developing a variety of compounds
with the attributes to bond to several engineering plastics such as nylon (PA),
polycarbonate (PC), Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), and PC/ABS alloys
This paper elaborates different TPE technologies developed to bond to various
rigid substrates i.e.
Nylon (PA), Polycarbonate (PC), Acrylonitrile-butadiene-
styrene (ABS), and PC/ABS alloys
Introduction
A wide variety of thermoplastic materials are used to make molded products.
The focus for this study was to develop thermoplastic elastomer compounds that
would overmold onto substrates made from Nylon (PA), Polycarbonate (PC),
Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), and PC/ABS alloys.

• Chemically resistant replacement for FR PC/ABS,
FR PC/PET & FR COPE, providing UL 94 Yellow
Card V-0 flame rating at 1.5 mm, V-1 at 0.75 mm
thicknesses for a broad color spectrum
• Outperforms PC/ABS, PC/PET and COPE in
resistance to common disinfectants
• Retains tensile strength after 72-hour exposure
to common hospital disinfectants, and shows
better long-term chemical resistance as
compared to PC blends and COPE
• Exhibits good impact and temperature resistance
• Available in natural grades, standard medical
colors, or custom pre-colored products
Applications:
• Medical device housings
• MRI, X-ray, CT scanner components
• Surgical instruments such as staplers, dissectors,
scissors
• Auto-injector pen
TRILLIANT™ HC
ELECTRICALLY
CONDUCTIVE
FORMULATIONS
• Consistent conductivity ensures repeatable
part performance and minimizes failures
related to inconsistent electrical conductivity
• High flow and easy processing facilitate filling
of thin wall parts and multiple cavity tools,
which enable faster cycle times and lower
per-unit part costs
• Superior durability reduces breakage and
resultant scrap related costs
• Less tendency to flash results in improved
appearance and less fluid retention in or on
the tip, thus driving greater accuracy and less
potential for cross-contamination
• High strength produces parts with greater
stiffness and warp resistance, again
minimizing scrap-related costs
Applications:
• Conductive pipette tips

HOW VERSAFLEX TPEs MAKE THE DIFFERENCE IN PORTABLE SPEAKERS APPLICATIONS
GASKETS
Water and Dust Protection
- Tight housing seals with no leakage over time
Reduced Manufacturing Costs
- Eliminates sourcing and assembly steps required of
O-rings by overmolding directly onto the substrate;
strong adhesion to PC & ABS
- Faster cycle times than silicone or TPU
Design Freedom
- Injection molding TPEs in gaskets enables
complex designs in which simple O-rings would be
challenging to assemble
SPEAKER SKINS
Durable Look and Feel
- Silky feel soft touch
- Long lasting aesthetics with abrasion and UV
resistance
Reduced Manufacturing Costs
- Eliminates sourcing and assembly steps
required of silicone skins by overmolding
directly onto the substrate; strong
adhesion to PC & ABS
- Faster cycle times than silicone or TPU
Design Freedom
- Overmolding TPE removes the need for
mechanical interlocks and primers to get
silicone materials to adhere to substrates

** Non-HBCD means that Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is neither used as starting material during the mixing phase of our products nor
intentionally added during production, but it cannot be excluded that it is not present at level of ubiquitous traces in any of the raw materials
used in manufacturing of our products.
