Scenarios for 2030 predict that of the 1300kt of PET material coming from PET bottles collected from the market yearly, between 20 to 30% will be colored bottles;2 these will enter their respective sorting and collection systems to ultimately produce rPET material that will be fed as new raw material for non-food PET applications.
Providing solutions that are considered recyclable within the colored bottle stream will thus be an integral part of the recyclability strategy for both convertors and brand owners.
It was also demonstrated that usage of a reduced amount of color, namely 0,045% of Fortis Amber-1, allows the production of bottles (Bottle C) that closely resembles the original bottles (Bottle A).

OnColor™ IR Sortable Black Infrared Sortable Black for Recyclable Packaging OnColor™ Infrared Sortable Black for Recyclable Packaging is a black colorant created without the addition of carbon black pigment.
In the presence of carbon black, currently used to color most black packaging, all the wavelengths are absorbed and black polymers can’t be identified, inevitably keeping black packaging out of recycling streams at considerable cost to our environment.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS • Infrared sortable black color palette available • Customized sortable black upon request • Solid or liquid form • Resins: PET & polyolefins • Processes: extrusion, injection, thermoforming APPLICATIONS OnColor IR Sortable Black can benefit the following stakeholders operating within the food and beverage packaging industry: • Retailers • Brand Owners • Converters • Recycling Facilities • Packaging Recovery Organizations PRODUCT BULLETIN OnColor™ IR Sortable Black Collection Ultramarine Obsidian BK Onyx BK Jasper BK BK Panther Iris Blossom Moonlit BK Gotland BK www.avient.com Copyright © 2020, Avient Corporation.

Colorants added in the mixing phase of the manufacturing process can generate transparent, translucent or opaque colors.
Liquid colorants will produce transparent, translucent and tinted color.
Solid colorants are better for generating highly opaque colors—including metallic, pearlescent and glow-in-the- dark colors—or patterns and effects, like marbling, wood or camouflage.
