Though elevated or high temperature performance corresponds to the morphology of the polymer and its glass transition temperature, long fiber reinforced thermoplastic will retain more of its structural performance longer than an unreinforced or short fiber reinforced plastic.
Fiber reinforcement allows composites to retain more mechanical function at elevated temperatures and closer to the polymers glass transition temperature (Tg) than an unmodified polymer.
Composites using a semi-crystalline polymer matrix will retain some mechanical performance closer to the polymer’s glass transition temperature (Tg) than an amorphous polymer.
