This meant the raw materials and processing method needed to be reconsidered. An added challenge was to ensure the material was stabilized against potential degradation.

THE SOLUTION Moving away from machining, the Frog Legs team embraced injection molding, enabling them to create more intricate shapes. With an aluminum hub, the dissimilar materials never fully bond and can slip. The resulting Frog Legs casters, crafted with fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, are an astounding 33% (280g) lighter than the conventional aluminum casters.

Elausa approached Avient looking for an aluminum replacement for heat sinks in vehicle fog and rear lights. However, compared with engineered thermoplastics, these materials have a relatively high density, are more complicated and energy intense to process, and may suffer from corrosion. This ensures that the material and part design performs as required, before anything goes into production.
