Brand owners
and manufacturers are responding by seeking to
incorporate materials including post-consumer
recycled plastics into their products and processes.
Composites are inherently lightweight alternatives
to metal and other materials, enabling
sustainability initiatives such as material reduction
and fuel economy improvements in many end
products.
Processing conditions can cause material properties to shift from the values stated in the information.

Because of the company’s
long relationship with Avient, the supplier asked for a
material recommendation to replace bent steel plate.
The materials
also allow designers to integrate features into the part
without the need for fasteners or secondary operations.
Further, the material costs for Bergamid resin are lower
than those of bent steel plate.

sustainable materials, such as coconut
fibers or recycled plastics, to reduce your
brand’s environmental footprint.

MEVOPUR™ LQ
Liquid Color & Additive Concentrates for Silicone Elastomers
Silicones elastomers are materials of choice in a
wide range of medical applications because of the
combination of unique physical properties such
as strength, durability, and flexibility combined
with one of the most tested polymers in terms of
biocompatibility and hypo-allergenic properties.
Processing conditions can cause material properties to shift from the values stated in the information.
It is the responsibility of the medical device manufacturer and the person placing the medical device on the market to ensure compliance of the medical device, including the suitability of all raw materials and
components used for its manufacture, and with all applicable laws and regulations.

Because low durometer (softer) material is a
requirement for this application, the manufacturer
considered a switch to a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).
The company tried several TPE grades, hoping to find
a material that would eliminate the adhesion problem
while providing comparable softness to silicone.
With the Avient material, the manufacturer is expected
to save $122,000 per year vs. silicone.
