The challenge lay in bringing that aesthetic to the car’s interior, both effectively and affordably. Fabric offered the qualities designers wanted, but the raw material cost was too high and secondary manufacturing processes too costly for the car’s intended price point. The final product delighted the car’s design team, and provided a number of critical advantages for the manufacturer:

In 2016, Avient - which, at the time, was operating as PolyOne - announced development of a lightweight, carbon fiber-reinforced underbody brace, which is offered as a performance upgrade for the C7 generation of General Motors’ popular Chevrolet Corvette sports car.  Lighter weight not only helps make performance cars faster, but also corresponds to better fuel efficiency in all vehicle types. The Corvette Z06 won the 2015 Car and Driver Lightning Lap with the fastest speed, which also ranked as the second fastest lap time in the history of the event.

In collaboration with a leading German car producer, Avient was requested to reduce a dashboard carrier’s weight while keeping part performance and mechanical properties. The car producer reduced the dashboard weight by 20% and improved the part bending strength, thus enhancing the vehicle safety in case of a collision.
