This is where Avient’s Foaming
Prediction Service can help.
FOAMING PREDICITION SERVICE
Avient Design uses Autodesk® Moldflow® simulation
software1 to provide 3D simulations of parts foamed
with Hydrocerol™ Chemical Foaming Agents during
the mold filling phase.
The foaming simulation is carried out under
confidentiality and is currently available for
components made from polypropylene (PP), talcum
filled PP, and glass fiber filled PP, with a minimum
part thickness of 2mm.

Grades are
available for polyolefins, PP, PC/ABS, ABS, PA6—
filled and reinforced polymers included—and
others on request.
Wire & Cable
Chemical foaming agents can be used in polymers
for wire and cable applications as nucleating
agents in the physical foaming process, creating
regular and small foam cells.
Extrusion-specific concentrates are available for
most common packaging resins, including PP, PE,
PS, PET, and PLA.

Benefits of Hydrocerol™ Chemical Foaming Agents
They are endothermic chemical foaming agents that provide the following
benefits in the injection molding process:
Chemical foaming agents versus other technologies
PP T20 with physical
foaming agent (PFA),
large cell structures,
thin outer cover layer
PP T20 + 3% Hydrocerol
concentrate, small cell
structures, thick outer
cover layer

During the activation reaction, chemical foaming
agents principally react in two ways:
• exothermic
• endothermic
Exothermic CFAs release more energy during
decomposition than needed for the reaction.
In contrast to conventional molding, it is not
necessary to use holding pressure for foaming, as it
would suppress the foam formation.

SPECIAL
FOAMING
PROCESSES
A number of specific processes have been developed
to achieve special properties of the foamed parts.
