In addition to their use in standalone applications, TPEs can be overmolded onto a rigid plastic grip in an injection molding process to create a distinctive, cushioned feel without compromising the stiffness and strength of the underlying structure. When overmolded, GLS TPEs bond permanently and virtually seamlessly to many different plastic substrates, including polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), PC/ABS, copolyester, polyamide (nylon) and polystyrene (PS).

Design flexibility = fast customization: With plastic offering greater design freedom than metal, the company can quickly develop and produce variations of the part for different customers. Injection molding = cost savings: Compared with metal fabrication and its time-consuming secondary operations, injection-molded plastics are produced as a net-shape part in a single step, which boosts productivity and lowers system costs.

TPEs can be used alone, or these softer materials can be overmolded onto a rigid plastic substrate using co-injection or insert injection-molding technology.
