CLEVELAND – March 28, 2022 – Avient today announced a new reSound™ REC thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) formulation for use in certain food-contact applications.
This new reSound REC TPE is a 65 Shore A hardness and contains 25 percent PCR content from recycled polypropylene (PP).

Starting with specific performance requirements, Avient’s formulation experts set to work developing several thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) grades that could deliver better productivity and enhanced key properties than the silicone rubber part.
Extensive compatibility testing confirmed that the new grades would bond chemically with the engineering thermoplastic rigid substrate required in the device.
Finally, the new TPE grades also boasted lower extractables because they required no crosslinking, unlike thermoset silicones.
